Well, testing for herpes, HIV, and syphilis is done by a blood test. (although some places are now testing for HIV via urine test) The other bacterial STD's, such as clamydia, trich, and gonnorhea are tested by the swab test...the doc will swab the inside of his urethra with a q-tip looking thing. HPV (genital warts) and molluscum contagium cannot be tested for unless there are symptoms present. Herpes is not part of a routine STD test, like if you just go in and say you want an STD test, he would need to specify exactly what he wants to be tested for. Good luck.
