Angry Chlamydia Concern HELP ME

Over two years ago an ex-partner of mine contacted me to inform me that she and her current boyfriend had contracted chlamydia. They had discovered the STD when her boyfriend discovered symptoms and went for tests. She advised me that my girlfriend (now my wife) and I should go for an STD test. Following this news I immediately went to my GP to seek advise. My doctor asked me if I noticed any discharges or abnormalities and quizzed me about other symptoms of chlamydia. As I was showing no signs of chlamydia he was assured that I didn’t have the STD and that there should be no reason for concern. Following this news from my doctor I decided not to tell my girlfriend.

Since then, I have read up on the net about chlamydia and what effects it has on men, women and unborn children if untreated. For the last couple of months I have been struggling with a pain in my left testicle. I went to my doctor who examined me and sent me to a consultant. The consultant sent me for an ultrasound of the testicle and everything was clear.

At the time, I had not linked the pain in my testicle to chlamydia as I was thinking it was something more serious like testicular cancer. I have recently discovered by reading more on the net that chlamydia can lead to epidydimitis in men. This I understand can be very serious, which can also lead to infertility. One of the main symptoms of epidydimitis is pain or swelling of the testicle/s. But I am sure that if I have epidydimitis it would have shown on the ultrasound (or would it?). I am even more concerned about my wife who I have spoken to recently about my chlamydia concern. Women with untreated chlamydia can led to PID, a problem with the reproductive organs that prevents a woman having children.

I am now awaiting an STD/chamydia test which I am hoping will be negative. My concern now is that I have waited too long to go and get tested. Its been over two years since my ex-partner initially informed me of the her STD. I have told two doctors about this STD concern I have and both have reassured me that its very doubtful I or my wife have it as we show no symptoms except for the pain I have in my testicle. I also know that many men and women show no signs of this STD until its too late…….do I have reason for concern?

You have your facts correct, but your doctors are probably correct that you do not have it. Wait for the test results and see.

You should definitely both be tested. One of the characteristics of Chlamydia is that many people show no symptoms at all. That is one of the reasons that it is so much of a problem because if someone isn't suffering any ill effects they won't be seeking medical advice.
The only way to know for sure is by you both being tested. You are obviously concerned for yourself and your wife, so put your minds at rest. If it is Chlamydia then it can be treated, so try not to worry too much.

Re: Chlamydia Concern (Testicle Pain)

I'm a happy man. The Chlamydia test results came back all clear. The nurse at the STD clinic told me that I had a cyst on the epididymis which was quite normal with men. After she felt around that area I was in some pain, she had pinpointed the problem which so far no other doctor has done. She explained to me that this was not Epididymitis.
