Aldara cream for warts..causing itching and burning - Sexually Transmitted Diseases Message Board

Just wanted to know if anyone has used this cream in the past for genital warts. I have been experiencing itching entering into my 2nd week using the cream. The warts seem to be shrinking and getting harder but I think they may be getting infected. I have a doctor's appt soon but it's bugging me in the meantime,,just wanted people opinion ..thanks everyone

Yes, the Aldara can be very irritating. Try to use the least amount possible until your body adjusts to the cream. If it becomes too overwhelming, than use it twice a week instead of the three nights per week. It contains an acid, and well, that is going to be irritating. Unfortunately you may have to just grin and bear it. My only other suggestion is some Americain...that numbs the skin and can be found in the Hemerrhoid section in the drug store. That stuff works wonders. A benadryl may work as well to get rid of the itching. Best of luck to you

I went to the dermatologist and told him about the itching,, he prescribed me a antihistamine called Hydroxyzine which is especially for itching so I'll let you know how that goes. As for the Aldara it works amazing,,I am very impressed with it. I am only on my 3rd week and the warts are almost completely gone. I was starting to think I would have them forever and it has really affected my self esteem. I have gained 30 pounds in the last 5 months because I just didn't see the point of feeling good or looking good for anyone. Well I still look good

but I don't feel so great,,hopefully once the warts are completely gone I can start getting on with my life. Does anyone have any advice on dating after having HPV????
