I recently found out I have genital warts, and I am 16 weeks pregnant. The doctor said that he isnt going to do anything about them becuase they may go away on their own after I have the baby. He said that you can still deliver vaginally with them, but there is a small chance the baby can get them also. He made it sound like it wasnt a big deal, but I am really worried now about giving them to my child. I was curious if anyone has delivered vaginally with genital warts, and what the outcome was. Or If anyone is educated on the topic, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your doctor is telling you that a vaginal delivery w/genital warts isn't a big deal, it's time to find a new doctor - ASAP!!! You DEFINITELY pose the threat of passing them on to your child during delivery!!! Normally, a doctor will do a c-section on you if they are present during labor. If you don't want to change doctors, I highly recommend that you tell him to do a c-section, just in case, to avoid possible transmission. From what I've read/heard, you can't pass them to the baby in utero because the disease doesn't live in the blood, it lives in the skin and therefore is transmissible through skin-to-skin contact.

I have hpv and I delivered my daughter vagianally and had no problems. The baby has a very low risk of getting warts. C-section wasn't even brought up. If you had herpes I could see a cause for concern. Don't worry your baby will be fine.

....I have hpv (sounds much better than warts by the way) and I actually had 3 of them at the time and didn't even know I had the darn disease.I was on the labor table getting ready to give birth and was diagnosed with them.I freaked out to thinking oh **** my poor daughter is going to be infected.There is a very SLIMMM

chance your child can be infected like I said I had visible warts when I delivered and no problems and I asked 4 doctors including my daughters pediatrician(whom I asked several times to check) 1family doctor-1 std specialist-1 hospital doc.C-section is only for women with herpes,herpes can be harmful to your new baby.When passing through the birth canal.So I hope this helps you because I Was a nervous wreck too when I was on spot.Besides you have more things to worry about than this........ (like delivery pain and labor)Oh and congratulations on having your baby.

I understand that there is a SLIM chance that transmission is possible, but there is that possibility of transmission during labor. I know I, personally, would rather have a c-section than take that risk! I do wish you all the luck in the world, though!!!
