Most people who are teenagers or older will test positive for HSV1. Over 80% of the population is already infected by the time they reach 14 years of age, and the percentage only goes up as age goes up. Only about 20% of those infectedwith either Herpes simplex ever show symptoms. What this probably means is that you are infected orally with HSV1. Some people may get just one coldsore after initial infection, and never any more symptoms, some people get recurring coldsores from time to time, but most people never get any symptoms at all. Don't worry about it...most doctors don't even test for HSV1 anymore because it is just assumed that it will come back positive.
