Unhappy Genital Warts...WORRIED :(

I'm 18 and I'm pretty sure that I have genital warts. My older sister is taking me to the doctor on Monday because I'm scared to tell my mom. It's been bothering me for over a week, but I kept denying that I had anything. I feel really disgusting and ashamed. My sister even judged me, I feel like I have no one to talk to. If I sit a certain way it I'm in extreme pain, as well as when I try to wipe or wash. Some of the bumps are skin color, and others are lighter. Is there anything I can do for the pain before Monday? I'm to the point where I dread using the bathroom. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated.

Re: Genital Warts...WORRIED :(

You can get an over-the-counter spray anesthetic for use in the genital area. Hospitals give it to you to use at home after you have had a baby and you are really sore from the birth and/or stitches. Look for it in the pharmacy. I'm sorry I don't have a brand name to give you... maybe someone else on here knows. Hope this helps

Re: Genital Warts...WORRIED :(

i'm sorry, i don't know what you might be able to use to ease the pain, but i just want you to know that you shouldn't feel dirty and you shouldn't let others' judgement make you feel ashamed. you let your sister know that 1 out of 3 sexually active persons has hpv and doesn't even know it. i know people who've only been with one person and it just so happens that person had the virus and passed it on to them. i have the virus as well and felt dirty in the beginning too, but i finally realized that this stupid virus doesn't change who i am and doesn't define me as a person. i'm still the same person i was before and if people feel the need to make me feel lower than them due to it, they need to get themselves checked before they talk because there's a good chance 1 or more of them has the virus as well and doesn't know it. my point being hpv has become so common now, people really need to be careful of what they say and do. good luck at the doctors tomorrow and let us know what he/she says.

Re: Genital Warts...WORRIED :(

No need to feel ashamed but I can't really say that because everybody feels ashamed when they are first informed they have an STD. But I will say that you could have something worse and that HPV is something you can live with. There have been studies that have shown that after a person is exposed to the virus and gets warts and has them removed becomes almost immune to the virus as your bodies antibodies built a tolerance to it. I had warts removed back in December and I have not had any come back *knock on wood*. But there is still hope even if you have HPV. Just remember that almost 80% of sexual active people have hpv and don't know it. I have HPV and herpes and I didn't know either until I had an outbreak and my HPV was misdiagnosed by a doctor so I had warts for almost 2 years and never got them treated until recently. Keep you chin up kid. You'll be alright. Just be glad it isn't something worse. Once you get beyong the initial shock you will be fine.

Re: Genital Warts...WORRIED :(

Well I went to the doctor today. Turns out I was wrong, I don't have genital warts. Instead I was diagnosed with primary herpes. I was a little thrown off by white bumps, but my doctor explained to me that they were white membranes. I was put on Valtrex. I'm a little nervous about the side effects. I also agreed to do a 6 month survey for a new medicine to reduce future outbreaks so hopefully all goes well. Thank you to those who responded to my message. I still feel ashamed, but we're all human things happen in life that you must deal with. I actually felt better once I left the doctor's office. I was stressing myself out way too much before. Atleast now I can feel comfortable being treated. Thank you for the support.
