well ive never done oral but being wanting to. well my problem is, i always have cold sores in my mouth. its unbelievable how i can always have these sores. its been like this ever since i was young. well thats the only reason y i havent done anything w my bf, and told him, the only way is w a condom. but what fun is that? anyways, my question is, can he catch something, even if i do get rid of my sores, i mean, maybe these sores are viruses, and he can catch them from my saliva??? i dont know. i dont want to give him something, and then he gives it right back to me, in my vagina. does anyone know what im talking about?

Use a condom if you're not sure.. it's not fun, but how fun is it catching something or giving somebody something? Are they open sores?

Are they canker sores? Canker sores are on the inside of the mouth, like on the tongue and inside of cheeks. It's unknown as to why people get them but they are not supposed to be contagious.

Are you really sure they are cold sores, i.e. oral herpes? Has a doctor diagnosed them? If they are oral herpes, getting on antiviral surpession therapy should help reduce the outbreaks dramatically. Please see a doctor about it.

Also, you cannot reinfect yourself after the initial outbreak is over. Your body has the antibodies to fight off a new infection. Well, let me backtrack a bit. This is true for most people, but if you really suffer from continuous outbreaks of herpes, then there may be a problem with your immune system and it might be possible to self-infect in some other body location though, if this was the case, you probably would have infected yourself elsewhere long ago.

Continue to use a condom until you can get properly diagnosed and advice by a doctor.

I would still see a doctor, but there is another thing I can think of here. If you have had them as long as you remember, most people are actually born with some form of herpes ... not the STD though. These aren't transmitted that way. My husband gets these canker sores under his mouth all the time. It probably doesn't help that he pops them all the time and makes them worse, but he gets them no matter how hard he tries to stop them. Anything slightly acidic will make them a ton worse. However, I've NEVER had this problem and have never contracted anything from him because of it. See a doctor though, and let me know what they say.
