I'm new to this board. here's my story:

I'm an 18 year old female and I'd never had any vaginal problems whatsoever, not even yeast infections, until I turned 18 last august. that's when i first got BV. the doctor prescribed me metrogel and it went away. then I got it again about four months later, and took Flagyl pills. I then got it a month later and took Flagyl again. this is when I started a long-term relationship with my now fiance. I somehow developed trich this time, we think my boyfriend was a carrier, and he kept re-infecting me. I got the trich again about a month and a half ago, took Flagyl. then I got it again a month later, took Flagyl again. I got it again 2 weeks ago, and this time my doctor was smart enough to give me a refill on the pills so my boyfriend could take them too. I just went to the doctor again today because some of the symptoms were coming back, and the trich never cleared up. she said that sometimes the protozoa that causes trich is very tough, and prescribed me Flagyl and along with that, metrogel. so two treatments at the same time. she also gave a refill on the flagyl to give to my boyfreind.

this is very very upsetting. I've begun to experience some depression over this. my sex life with my fiance is basically ruined, since sex when you have trich is really painful. what sucks even more is that I'm one of those people that develops yeast infections whenever they take antibiotics. so in the past year, everytime I've taken Flagyl/Metronizadole, which is like at least 5 or 6 times now, I've developed a yeast infection every time. as if the BV/trich wasn't bad enough. I can't even remember the last time my vagina felt normal, or sex wasn't painful. I cry a lot over this. luckily my fiance is wonderfully supportive, but I am still depressed.

I felt a lot better today until I read on the Internet about some cases of antibiotic resistant trich. I read about a few women who had had it for YEARS. one of them had even developed peripheral neuropathy (!!!), a side effect from metronizadole, due to repeated treatments. I am scared to DEATH that I have a resistant strain of trichomoniasis. I am only 18, and just got engaged. what if it is incurable? what if I become infertile? what if my nervous system becomes ruined? what if I have to undergo months or evne years of treatment, not to mention if my strain is resistant, then I gave my boyfriend it as well, and he would have to undergo a bunch of tests and treatments as well. I am starting to feel like I will never have a normal sex life. I want to die.
