Oral sex

I had oral sex with my boyfriend for the first time. I had never performed oral before with anyone, so I was a little shaken the day after when my mouth seemed sore, but he told me it was normal. Today, a week later, i woke up with an awful sore throat. yesturday it was sore too, but it went away. It seems to be my glands that are swollen...but we didnt use protection so I'm worried what it could be. I read that I can contract STD in my throat, but I don't know what the symptoms would be. PLEASE help.

Re: Oral sex

The timing is a little suspect, though people get sore throats all the time from non-sexual activity. Oral STDs are possible, so it would not be unwise to get tested. Just be sure to tell the nurse or doctor that you suspect an oral infection, as swabbing the vagina won't reveal an oral infection.

Re: Oral sex

If you did contract a STD orally, you likely wouldn't have symptoms. And truly, oral is awfully safe, and it's extremely unlikely you contracted anything from this exposure. I think you just have a garden variety sore throat. If it's severe or keeps up, see your doctor.

Re: Oral sex

I don't want to be argumentative, but, I beg to differ with sparkleflower: if you contracted gonorrhea from an oral contact, sexually, with your partner then, yes, you would have symptoms and a prolonged sore throat could be one of them. In addition, you could also contract syphillis and clamydia by performing oral sex on your partner. THis is why the experts are recommending that people perform oral sex using condoms.

Re: Oral sex

Well, I agree; I was probably a bit cavalier in my comments :-) However, it's very rare to contract chlamydia orally. While it CAN happen, it's very, very unlikely. Gonorrhea can be transmitted orally, but you probably wouldn't have symptoms; most people don't. Syphilis can be transmitted orally, but unless you live in certain parts of the country, it's not something you probably need to worry about, especially from just this one exposure.

Just in general, it's a good idea to get tested for all STDs regularly, at least once a year. If you haven't been tested, and your bf hasn't been tested, I encourage you both to do so, so you'll know your status :-)

Re: Oral sex

Most people have little abrasions, cuts, or tears in the gums or internal mouth skin. Any STD or Aides virus can enter these raw places.

Yes you get STD or Aides from oral sex.
