Pap test and detection of clamydia

Does the pap test can detect clamydia infection as it does for hpv? Or does clamydia test have to be specifically be requested?

It has to be specifically requested. A PAP test is only for cervical abnormalities.

Re: Pap test and detection of clamydia

This scares me a little bit. See last year I had my annual check but I did not really requested a former std check. Doctor did not even asked if I wanted one. So the results came back with the std HPV and cervical dysplasia (CIN1). I had a colposcopy done (where nothing was found) and had to go back 6 months after for another pap smear. Now I question could I have had chlamydia all the way that the doctor totally dismissed since I did not requested a chlamydia test? Would the doctor not even suggest that I had screening for chlamydia even since I was found to have a former std like hpv?

just like tommy said, a pap test only test for cervical abnormalities however you can request to be tested for hpv on your pap - any other type of std screening has to be requested or it won't be done!....some doctors will suggest you have it done but more than like won't!!! the best thing to do is just get tested if you in any doubt at all! chlamydia is an std but can be cured by antibiotics so it's best to find out sooner than later if thats the case to have it taken care of! normally the doctor will treat you and your partner for this! so just get tested and the results will be back in less than a week!

Yeah I can tell that doctors won't mention a word about that. I think it is wrong of the doctors not even suggesting to have it. In fact I think a screening for chlamydia should be mandatory along with the pap smear for everyone who is or has been sexually active. Hpv screening is done along witht the pap smear even if you don't request it. It just come together. Now chlamydia and gonorreah are done separatetly that is what I have the impression of. The scary thing of chlamydia is that yes you can be cured easily but it can take your fertility away. It dryes your fallopian tubes and it's irreversible. That is really scary.
