Husband has warts....wife doesn't.....WHY

Can anyone can be very honest with me and tell me how you get warts? My husband has had them for about 1 1/2 years now. They got so bad that he finally went to have them frozen off???? Anyways, I have been sleeping with him safe and unsafe and I NEVER got them.. He says he got them from a toliet seat.. I doubt that. (Hubby's profession is in the hospital) My PAP's always come back fine. Is there a chance he cheated on me? Also once I also had a skin tag and they said it was a wart and about a month later I went back and it was gone. The doctor said they don't go away without medicine so it was most likely a skin tag.

SO IF I DON"T HAVE IT THAN WHERE DID HE GET THEM AND WHY ARE THEY SHOWING UP NOW. I have been married for 6 years and we have been together for 9!

Warts are very common. Authorities say that there are over 100 types and that as many as 80% of the population will have them sometime in their life. In most people the immune system will eventually, slowly, in about two years be able to recognize and defeat the virus. Maybe your immune system defeats the virus but his does not.

I find it odd that the doctor would say that warts don't go away on their own, because they do. Or at least the ones that you get on your hands, feet, and other parts of your body do, so I don't see why genital warts wouldn't eventually go away too. I've read that warts will usually disappear after a few months to two years (average time). And different people's bodies react to the virus differently. It's possible that you had it, and fought it off very quickly, while your dh's immune system didn't (obviously).

As for how he got it, the toilet seat story sounds unlikely, but since all you need is some kind of physical contact, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.

Re: Husband has warts....wife doesn't.....WHY

If your husband has HPV, and you have had unprotected sex since he's had them, then you have it too. It's possible that your immune system is able to suppress the virus such that you don't have any visible warts.

As far as his toilet seat story, that's ridiculous. HPV is so common, he may have contracted it the first time he had sex, and only now is his immune system unable to suppress the virus... has he been sick or under a lot of stress lately? Those of us with HPV can rarely tell where it came from although I suppose we all have our suspicions. HPV is not a smoking gun for infidelity, but the toilet seat story sure seems fishy all on it's own...
