| Re: If you and your partner have herpes>>>>
Having a cold sore does not mean you have genital herpes. Most everyone has been exposed to the oral herpes virus and it is nothing to be worried about or ashamed of. Herpes in your oral areas and genital areas are caused by the same virus, but it will not travel from one area to the other. You should know, however, that oral sex while you have a cold sore could give someone genital herpes.
To answer your questions about genital herpes (although based on what you said, you have only the oral kind and do not need to be worried), it's fine to have sex if you both have herpes. It will not create any additional STDs. I would advise avoiding sex during an outbreak, but I doubt you'd be wanting to have sex if you had a genital herpes outbreak anyway. Provided you've been tested and know that there's no risk one of you is carrying anything else (such as HIV) that hasn't been detected AND you've protected yourself against pregnancy, unprotected sex between two partners with herpes is fine too. I assume that you and your boyfriend were treated for chlamydia if those test results came back positive.
As far as having babies goes, there's no risk with oral herpes. If a woman has genital herpes, she can pass this on to the baby during birth and this can be very dangerous or even deadly. However, suppression therapy can be used (drugs like Valtrex) to ensure that she doesn't have an outbreak at the time of delivery and if there is any doubt, the baby can be delivered through a C-section to avoid any risk.
