STD testing?

OK, this is complicated. I've been with my boyfriend for 8 years, we are supposed to be in a monogomous relationship but recently I've come to beleive he has cheated on me. (staying out late, not coming home at night and claiming he stayed at a friends). I last slept with him maybe 3 days ago, he didn't come home last night, and Monday I have my first prenatal appointment. I beleive they test for all STDs at the first appointment.

So my question is, how long would it take for an STD to show up during testing? I'm not even sure if it's possible that I could have one but I want to be extra safe since I am pregnant and still nursing my 16 month old daughter. I'm guessing I should tell my doctor in case they may want to do another test later on. With #1 still nursing, I am concerned for both of my children's health if my boyfriend has been sleeping around.

Re: STD testing?

First of all let me just say that you need to leave his ***! Any man who doesn't come home to a woman he's been with for 8 year had has kids with doesn't need to be a part of your life.

But since that wasn't the question I'll take a minute to answer that too. I've been with my boyfriend for 8 years as well and even though we don't have any children and I complete trust in him. I still get test once a year and the reason for that is not matter how much you trust or have faith someone your responsible for your own health and well being. Your childrens life and your life is to sacred to leave in someone else hands

You'll know with in two weeks if you have an STD

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure I will not tolerate this anymore. My mom is calling some people to let us know what steps to take to get him out of our lives (he also is an alcoholic).

Anyways, how long after exposure does it take to test positive? Will you still test positive if it has been less than a week? We have only had unprotected sex twice in the past year. The first time was a few weeks ago (in which I probably conceived) and the other time earlier this week. If there is an STD will it show up this early?

I'm am really scared right now, mostly for my daughter. I can't imagine how he could endanger her health. It sickens me.

Re: STD testing?

Ament,

It all depends on the STD that you might have contracted. Most STD will become apparent in two to six weeks of contracting them. Others like HIV might not become apparent for years. Thats why its always important to go in once a year and be tested. Of course if you think your man is cheating on you and you choose to stay with him then I would go in every 3 months just to be safe.

I believe you said the last time you were with him was a couple of days ago so I would probably wait a couple of weeks and then go in and get tested. Even though you might not show symptons its really important that you get check anyway. Alot of times you wont have any signs but could still causing damage to your unborn baby.
