how much should i be worried about herpes?

made a mistake. got inebriated at a strip club, and a dancer briefly performed unprotected oral sex on me. she didnt have any outbreaks on her lips or anything that i remember, but i am worried and upset that i let it happen.

what are the odds that i caught herpes or something, and how many sleepless nights do i need to wait to know if i have it?

my only reason for concern is that it happened (received unprotected oral contact). dont have any symptoms yet or anything.

are my odds of having gotten something low? am i freaking out over nothing? i'm really upset with myself. its the first time i've been so irresponsible.

Re: how much should i be worried about herpes?

as far as i know, you cannot determine the timeframe that it will show up in a blood test in two weeks or two months. it can lay dormant so if you test 2 months from now there may be a chance you have it but it just may not show up, yet. don't be too hard on yourself. one in five people have it. it is unfortunate but it is reality.

how much cause for concern do you think i should have? it wasnt for very long, i saw no outbreak (and she may not have herpes to begin with), and even if she had an outbreak, i'm not guaranteed of getting it anyway right?

am i letting myself get nervous over nothing? i read that i'd experience symptoms rather soon after. is this right

thanks

correct, there is a possibility she could have it and you still will not get it. honestly, i would not worry. just continue to do your regular testing and practice safe sex. also, make sure you ask for the herpes test because my doctor said that a lot of doctors don't mention it to their patients. she actually suggested it to me only a few years ago. i assumed this whole time i was being tested for it...little did i know. i hv 1 but have only had one outbreak right above my lip once. no other signs, ever! bc my doctor told me one in five have hv1/2 i started reading about std's and have learned a lot. also, as rare as it is, ppl with hv1 might give ppl hv2 from oral sex. just do some googling and educate yourself. but do not worry. you will be fine whether you have it or not. 1 in 5 ppl is A LOT. think about how many ppl go to the store/mall everyday, think about how many of those ppl have it. you would not be alone, at all. i hope i have helped in some way...
