condom broke. std risks?

Recently durring protected intercourse i had a condom pop
i stopped imediately and will get a test soon.
but i could not find alot of good information on the situation.
so my question is. " is the risk of infection (mainly HIV) with an std proportionate to the amount of time unprotected intercourse was continued?"
thanks in advanced for any answers.

Re: condom broke. std risks?

So long as the head of your penis is protected during vaginal and /or anal sex you were protected from an HIV infection. A broken condom does happen and there is a small risk of an HIV infection ( I have stressed the word small).

HIV is an extremely difficult virus to transmit, far more difficult than other more easily transmitted STDs even under it's ideal conditions. Given that your exposure was the briefest of brief it is unlikely you have contracted HIV from this, even if your partner had HIV which is also very unlikely.

I have been on various HIV forums for the better part of five years and have seen lots of people concerned over condom failures. In that entire time nobody has ever posted they have test positive through it. This is not to say it does not happen, a broken condom does constitute a risk but contracting HIV through it is very rare. It is also far more difficult to contact HIV from female to male.

There have been many cases of people being in long term relationships with partners who test out positive, have many exposures and then test out negative themselves. On the other hand some people do contract HIV from one night stands. So it is very difficult to tell you’re exactly how much you were at risk. It would be safe to say that there is a risk here, but that risk is very small.

You should test out, simply for peace of mind, for all STDs and HIV. Given what you have posted it is extremely unlikely and you will have to be extremely unlucky to have contracted HIV through this.

Kevin.
