Re: Genital wart types?

From what I have read, I don't think you have the cancerous type, bc if you have actual warts, which I have.. its more annoying than alarming. I'm pretty sure you aren't cancerous, just will have to remove the warts and deal with the situation you are in.

Re: Genital wart types?

Like lins said, if you have actual warts you don't have to worry about them becoming cancerous. If you have cirvical hpv and your doctor says it is high risk then there is a chance of it becoming cancerous. If it is found early and treated there is a very low chance of it becoming cancerous. Best wishes and best of luck. If you need any more help just ask me.

Re: Genital wart types?

Evladm,
I am not sure if you are a guy or a girl, but if you are a girl your doctor should have a report from your adnormal pap saying what type of HPV you have.
There are over 100 different strains of HPV. 1 is low risk which produces warts. Another is mild risk which just shows up on a pap as adnormal and another is high risk which puts you at higher risk for cancer. The things is, you can have more than one strain at once. (I have low and high risk, so I have warts and am at higher risk for developing cervical cancer).
The warts themseleves aren't cancerous, your only at a higher risk for cancer if you have the high risk type of HPV.
If you are a guy, there is no test (that I am aware of) that you can take that will tell you if you even have HPV. You can only be diagnosed when warts are visible. (this is why men are considered carriers & they rarley show any warts either). If you do carry the high risk strain, the chances of you getting penille cancer is the same you would have to get hit by a meteor (my doctor told me).
Even if you do have the strain linked with cancer, DOES NOT mean you have cancer. You are only at a higher risk of getting it, because the HPV causes cell changes on a womans cervix. That is why it is SOOO important to get your paps, because cervical cancer is totally preventable.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!! Or you should speak with your doctor.

Exclamation Re: Genital wart types?

You are correct! There are about 100 different strains out there, classified as "high risk" & "low risk". High risk strains are associated with cervical cancer but are not associated with actual warts. Low risks strains are not associated with cancer, but will cause you to have actual warts. Eventhough this is an std, it can be transmitted without any sexual contact what-so-ever. It is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, not bodily fluids, as HIV for example. Men are considered to be "carriers" of the high risk strains because they do not produce actual warts and without an actual wart, diagnosis is impossible (for the high risk strains). Fortunately, for men, the chances of penile cancer with the high risk strains is VERY slim, but it is being disputed in the medical profession. Also being disputed is the assertion that 20% of all oral cancers are attributed to HPV. 80% of the sexual population is infected and doesn't even know & because of that, condom manufactuers are in tizzy to change the label on there condoms to warn consumers that they don't protect against this!

The best thing to do if you are diagnosed is to take care of yourself, get check ups with your doctor regularly, eat right, exercise, take daily vitamins and keep your immune system healthy. If you have a strong & healthy immune system, you can fight off the disease. There is no cure, but a healthy body can fight off the disease and supress your symptoms and make life a little easier!

GOOD LUCK!
