help! warts - Sexually Transmitted Diseases Message Board

I am a female in her late twenties that was just told that I have genital warts. All the doctor said was she would put something on them and to wash it off in 6 hours and that I might have to come back. I know I have the virus for life and that I need to get rid of the warts asap. My question how long does this take? And now that I have them does it mean that I will never be able to receive oral sex again due to having the virus?

My wife and I had them 12 years ago. It took a few months to get rid of the pesky ones but we've never had any regrowth nor do we use any protection. Oral has not been a problem either. I do believe that you need to avoid sexual contact until you eliminate all the warts. It doesn't mean that you are free of the virus but the chances of infecting other areas are much reduced.

Thanks SO MUCH for the info. That's more than the doctor has told me. She never even told me to avoid sexual contact right now. I was wondering if having them frozen off can be done in one visit at the doctor's office or does it take several visits?

I too, just had a wart frozen off. It took about 5 minutes and didn't hurt at all (just stung a little b/c it's so cold). So I didn't realize until the doctor's visit that I had a genital wart. And now I'm REALLY freaked out... I have an incurable virus from one night of stupidity with someone. I could kick myself.

I've been reading through the posts and it seems like many of you are OK with this disease -- ie, living with it and coping. But I can't stand the thought of having to tell my next partner that I have an STD. I can't imagine him wanting to be with me after that. I can't even fathom further possible complications such as cervial cancer. I am so upset... But it's comforting to know I'm not alone.

How do you all cope? I'm finding it difficult. But maybe it's because I just found out 2 days ago.

Personally speaking, I think to a certain extent a person never totally gets over the fact that they have an STD for life. After a while you just learn to live with it. What other choice do you have? You can either mope for the rest of your life about how messed up things are. Or you can learn how to cope with it.
I know how hard it can be knowing you have an STD.

I found out Sep 2000, just 10 days after I had started my 1st yr of college. I pretty much wanted to drop out and forget about having a regular life. But since I have friends and a good boyfriend who pushed me to stay in school, and to understand that having an STD isn’t the end of my life. I discovered that things aren’t as bad as I thought they would be.

You may think that this sounds like a bunch of bull, but it’s not. One day you will wake up...look in the mirror and be like “Wow things are going to be okay.”
