Actually, STD's such as herpes (HSV) and genital warts (HPV) are spread by skin to skin contact. No sex needs to take place, just to touch your skin to your partner's infected skin. In addition, condoms will not always protect you from catching these, as skin that is not covered by the condom can be infected with these viruses and therefore spread to you. AND, don't forget, it is possible to acquire herpes through oral sex if your partner has ever had a coldsore. A lot of people don't realize that coldsores are herpes, and can result in genital herpes for the receiver of oral sex if the giver was infected and the virus was activated at the time. It is not necessary even for a coldsore to be present, as the virus sometimes is present even without symptoms, "viral shedding". Take care!
