question about STDs and receiving oral - Sexually Transmitted Diseases Message Board

i am a 21 y/o male. yesterday i was helping my friend caroline with some sorority stuff (moving heavy speakers and tables and whatnot). anyways i met one of her sorority sisters and to make a long story short she ended up giving me oral. later i told caroline about it and she told me that the girl is a total **** on campus. now i am getting all paranoid. i made sure she didn't have any sores on her lips and stuff before getting started. i guess my question is what are the chances of a male getting stds from a female from oral sex? also what types of stds could i get?

The odds are low, but hardly zero.

Herpers is probably the big one, though it would probably be Type 1, and if you already have type 1 orally, too, then you are probably immune to getting it in the genital region.

HPV is possible, but pretty rare. Chlamydia and gonnorhea are possible, but not likely. Occasionally, men will get symptoms leading to a diagnosis of prostatitis, though no infectious organism is ever found.

The odds are on your side, but it is always best to use condoms - even with "nice" girls.

Yes, having type 1 orally already does give some protection from getting it genitally, since your body already has some antibodies, but not total immunity, so it is still quite possible to get re-infected in other locations. I have a friend who spread her coldsores (type 1) to her eye, the doctor thinks it happened because she had a habit of wetting her finger with saliva and moving her contacts around when they got dry. eek!

I would say your biggest concern would be herpes, but I am not saying you have it. If you are really concerned go get screened for STDs at you doctors.

Its also possible for HSV-1 to recur in the eye even if you didn't spread it there. Its just the way it works sometimes.
