My infertility issues started with my first marriage. We had started for a family right away on our own but not aggressively. After 2 years of trying we saw a specialist. She first scheduled me for the regular blood tests and infertility workup and my ex-husband for a semen analysis. Everything there showed up as fine. That same month I had an HSG preformed which also was fine. We waited a few months and then began our first cycle of Clomid, 25mg. Of course after trying for 2+ years I had no faith, but lo and behold it worked!! the first cycle. My DS is now almost 5 years old.

Two years ago, 8/2006 my current husband and I were married. He had been married for 5 years to a woman and did not have any children. Although I knew neither of them had visited any kind of specialists and both had quite a few health problems that were obvious to me (he's 'scared' of doctors). I also knew that I would probably need the Clomid again and went ahead and got a 3 mo supply to start taking the same month as our wedding. At the end of those 3 cycles (he was sure it would work since it worked the first cycle before, even though he was only home for one 36 hr stretch a week) I finally convinced him to get a SA done. His first SA showed a good sperm count but his morphology was 6%, meaning that only 6% of the sperm were shaped correctly and able to fertilize an egg, unfortunatly, the good ones were too bogged down in the bad ones to be able to make it either. We then waited until 1/2007 to resume attempts. Before this time, DH was a truck driver, sitting for LOOOONNNGGGG periods of time, many times having to hold off on potty breaks, and eating VERY unhealthy for several years. (But boy could he collect those McDonalds Monopoly game pieces!!) His weight was around 270 at 6'1 and he slept at odd times and never excersised. In Jan of that year he quit driving a truck, got his EMT lisence and started nursing school. We tried 5 more months of Clomid, the timing was better, and waited until summer break to try something new. 4/2007 and 5/2007 we tried IUI's as well, that were BFN's. That 5/2007 after playing around with my dads glucose monitor a random reading gave DH a 294. He said of course it was the Mt Dew he was drinking, it may have been but I was drinking one too and mine was 97. I knew he had diabetes or was very close. At the same time I was becoming VERY discouraged with his nightly snoring and knew because my father has it that DH has sleep apnea. I begged him to see a doctor, or else I may have been spending many nights in my sons bunk beds. He went in 6/2007, was diagnosed with both, started Metformin for the diabetes, Simvastin for high cholesterol, Lisinopril for high bp and started on a sleep apnea machine at night. (We are much happier ) I also started him and me on a VERY great low-fat, carb conscious diet in which he lsot 40 lbs in 3 months (I gained 10, it was the Clomid ) In 6/2007 we also had 1 more IUI's while taking Clomid. All showed the same thing, bad sperm and no BFP.

Then in 7/2007, things took a turn for the better. I had a HSG which showed that my tubes were good and opened. He was in better shape and in 9/2007 we had our final IUI which was also a BFN. However, his SA at this IUI was PERFECT. The doctor asked what happened, what did you do?, I can't find one bad sperm, it shouldn't be this different. The only thing we could think of was the diet, the weight loss, and getting his BP, cholesterol, and BS's under control. Even with the improvement we had exhausted our use of Clomid, using it for over a year, and IUI's seemed pointless as well. Money was tight with DH being a full-time student and insurance not covering any of the procedures. We decided to wait until 5/2009 when he graduated from nursing school to decide on an IVF location. Here in the states or overseas. I still had some hope and was still having regular cycles throughout the winter and was so used to the signs of ovulation and my impending AF that when I smelled that familiar BO that smelled like vomit a week before AF was to come and my pee turned to cat pee the day AF was to come. I lost it. I was at a womens conference with girls from church and I couldn't get to a drug store, I had to wait 2 days to get home, but I KNEW it would be a BFP. I couldn't tell my husband, I didn't want to get him excited, so I went crazy alone. I stopped at a drug store on the way home and tested right then. I was 16DPO at this point and the '+' came across as fast as the urine moved across the screen. I was not surprised. The cat pee smell told me all I needed to know I showed the stick to DH when he got home and he went right out and bought 5 more tests of different brands. Just to be sure.

Well, we are sure, 39 weeks today and waiting for this baby!!
