I've just discovered this board and am so happy to read all your helpful posts. It's nice to get advice and feedback from others in similar situations.
Here's our story:
I was on Depo Provera for a number of years, then went off about 5 years ago to try to get pregnant. After many months of no period and fighting with my doctor to do something, she finally sent me for blood tests, then to a specialist. Specialist did more tests then eventually gave me a diagnosis of Premature Ovarian Failure. Great. Menopause at the age of 26.
I am convinced that Depo is evil, but that's beside the point.
After another couple of years on Hormone Replacement Therapy (while investigating our options and saving up money), we decided upon IVF with an egg donor. That's where the real stress began.
It takes quite a while to get all the initial test results back. Everything was looking fine and we were getting ready to proceed, just waiting for one final test - the Cystic Fibrosis results for our donor. Convinced that everything would be fine, my husband and I went on vacation, medication packed, ready to begin while we were away. I got the call as we were checking into our hotel that the test results came back that our donor did in fact carry the gene mutation for CF. Next step was to have my husband tested (takes three weeks).
Luckily, he came back fine so again we were ready to proceed. Our donor is terrified of needles, so I gave her the injections morning and night which took a bit of scheduling. Unfortunately she had a reaction to the Repronex and was left with painful welts every time she received a shot. I felt so guilty for putting her through this.
The egg retrieval was last week. Luckily our donor came through it like a champ. I've read a few posts that say that you're completely knocked out when the egg retrieval occurs. That's not the case with our clinic (she was wide awake but did have pain meds). They retrieved 11 eggs, of which 9 were useable. We ended up with 4 good embryos. I had one transferred last week and the remaining 3 were frozen.
My first blood test is on 02/26 and the wait is killing me!
