Re: Husband has RA I have shingles

Just curious here...
My DH came down with Shingles after being exposed to a toddler who had just received his Chicken Pox vaccine and was having a reaction to it.
Our Doctor told us that this was how my DH contacted the shingles.
I've noticed that there are so many older people with shingles and so many children now getting vaccines for chicken pox. Connection here????
Just wondering if you had also been around any little ones before you came down with the Shingles.

Re: Husband has RA I have shingles

Shingles are NOT contagious. But you have to have had chicken pox at sometime to even develop Shingles. My husband had a bad case of shingles abt. 2 yrs. ago and I have RA. There was no danger to me at all. Just in the past month or so they have come out with a Shingles vaccine and my husband just got the vaccine this past week. He said his arm was not even sore after it. It does cost $160.00 but our insurance paid 80% of it. The Dr. said it should prevent him from ever having another case of shingles. His previous case was very painful and took a long time to clear up and he still has scars around his waist from them. People that have RA cannot take the Shingles vaccine because it is a live virus, so I will not be taking it. You dont have to worry about making your husband sick. I take methotrexate and Humira for my RA and I was fine. Good Luck and you should probably consider getting the shingles vaccine whenever your Dr. says you can.
