My son was just diagnosed with shingles. Everyone is saying that it is so odd to have it so young. He is really a very even tempered boy. He works very hard at school and that would be the only stress that he could think of that he has had. He was ill with the flu. He has a small patch and does not seem to be in a lot of pain. He said it feels like a sun burn. I know nothing about shingles. Help with any knowledge of this would be great. Thanks

Yes, he does seem young. My husband was 24 when he came down with shingles. The doctor thought that was also young as we normally associate shingles with the elderly.
If I remember, I believe it's a virus related to the chicken pox. I think the doctor said that we carry the virus with us and at some point it will come out if we are exposed to the chicken pox virus? I honestly can't remember, but something to that effect. (Someone please correct me, I may be wrong.)
My husband was prescribed a cream to use and a pill for the pain. After paying for the cream he nixed the pill unless he felt he couldn't stand the pain! Back then it was about $100 for the tube of cream!
Really not much you can do for shingles, viral, and needs to run it's course. I remember he was stiff and achy, and they hurt. Good luck.

my granddaughter also came down with shingles last week she was stressed before all that about a first dance she went to and i think that had something to do with it. she is 12 yrs old. i also had it when i was 28 yrs old i had just become diabetic. she's using the cream and wore a long sleeve shirt while at the dance. except for the occasional pain associated with shingles she's a happy girl tell him to hang in there it's roughly about 3 to 4 weeks of duration. good luck
