A second chicken pox vaccine has been added to the list of mandatory vaccines. Our school now requires it for admission. My 6 year old son developed shingles 2 weeks after receiving it and still has the rash 1 month later. I had no idea this would happen. The first vaccine didn't cause a reaction at all, but the second one did in a big way.
Have any other children experienced this?
Doctors are not really informing people on these vaccines. Chicken Pox used to be no big deal. We were never vaccinated against this and if you get chicken pox as a child, you gain natural immunity which surpasses anything else! The shot does NOT protect from you from getting chicken pox. The shot contain a lie virus that has been engineered to be weaker than the real thing to not cause chicken pox. Here are the ingredients of the actual shot: varicella live virus neomycin phosphate, sucrose, and monosodium glutamate (MSG) processed gelatin, fetal bovine serum, guinea pig embryo cells, albumin from human blood, and human diploid cells from aborted fetal tissue.
Just so you know, since your dc had a severe reaction to the first one, this means you do NOT have to get another, if you don't want to, you can get a medical waiver. I would strongly consider the risks and benefits before you go ahead with more.
