Are shingles contagious?
My stepmom came down with shingles over a month ago, does anyone know if shingles are contagious? I feel terrible because I don't want to see her or my dad until they're gone, but I don't want to get them.

If you have not had chicken pox you can get it from someone who has shingles. You can get chicken pox, not shingles. Since most people had the vaccine or the chicken pox already, you don't have to worry about it being contagious except for small children who haven't been vaccinated yet. If the area with shingles is covered, it won't be contagious either.
