have you ever tried the lidocaine patches to just place over the most painful areas? these were actually invented for shingles pain. i use them for RSD and central pain syndrome pain which is very sinmilar to the ugly unrelenting pain from shingles. there is also a lido ointment that works too,tho not quite as well as the patches do. they are actually called "lidoderm 5%" patches and need an Rx from your doc,but they DO help alot in just numbing that ugly pain. just a suggestion that works amazingly well for my nasty pain. good luck,Marcia
