Help with shingles

i posted this under herpes too but it might be better suited here

Whats up, i'm 19 and was told yesterday by a doctor that i have shingles. It started last week with some itching on my back, and then red bumps started to appear, and i first passed it off as hives (i had recently taken st johns wart and i thought that might have something to do with it). After the "hives" didnt go away i went to the doctor and was told what i really had..

I would say that the bumps have been here for about 4 or 5 days, and i'm not quite sure what stage of shingles im in..

The pain and itching isnt too bad, i would say that i probably have a mild case of it, possibly due to my age, but at times it feels like a wave of tingly energy takes over my body and thats usually when there is pain (hasnt happened too much). i have been given acyclovir and benadryll, but i am wondering when i can expect these bumps to go away or at least the itching and pain

Re: Help with shingles

Shingles follows the route of a nerve - that's why the pain can feel tingling or burning.

It'll probably take 2 weeks considering you're young and healthy, for us old folks it's usually 3 to 5 weeks.

Here's an info page on Shingles: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/shingles/shingles.htm
