Chicken poxs? Shingles?

Hey there, I'm hoping someone could help me out. My daughter will be two next month and she started to develop this rash on her right arm closer to her hand/palm the monday after Father's day. They appeared sort of white/clear and it was hard, she'd itch it all the time then it would turn into a scab. I thought it was a insect bite at first and put a cold wet cloth over to help stop the itching. After a couple of days it started to spread, a little one on her palm, under her arms, on the side of her chest that touches the under arm, and today I found some on the side of her butt cheek, and some on her other side of her chest. All of them are on her right side except for the one I just found today that was on the opposite side of the chest. I've done some research about chicken pox and shingles and some of the things I've read are starting to scare me. Yes, she had her first varivax vaccination, never had chicken poxs yet. If anyone could help me try to figure out what it is, it would be great.

Re: Chicken poxs? Shingles?

It is most likely chicken pox (varicella). The vaccine does not prevent it entirely but in most cases, the vaccine lessens the severity if a child does get it. Sometimes a rash can occur shortly after getting the varicella vaccine as it is a 'live virus' vaccine. Shingles is basically the varicella (chicken pox) virus getting re-activated in someone who has had chicken pox in the past (as a child) and causes a simular rash and can be very painful. There is a Shingles vaccination available (Zostavax) but it is only reccomended for people 60 and over.
