Re: shingles around pregnant and elderly

I'd definitely ask your pregnancy doctor their opinion, if only to get reassurance. Shingles is caused by varicella zoster, the same virus that causes chicken pox. So if you have immunity to chicken pox I wouldn't worry... shingles is not supposed to be contagious unless you don't have immunity to chicken pox, then you'd catch chicken pox and not shingles, and that is only through direct contact with an active shingles rash that is still in the blister phase.

This should help you a bit more:

Congratulations on your pregnancy and don't worry !!

Re: shingles around pregnant and elderly

We found out my mom has cancer last year. After the first round of chemo she ended up with shingles around her neck and little on her head. She was admitted in the hospital for over a week and was in ICU. They had a sign on the door stating pregnant women and elderly were not allowed to visit her. I wasn't pregnant at the time, when I went to visit her everyday I would have to wear a whole body cover-up with gloves and a mask. I would still ask the doctor. But like Mellowfish said, if you are immune to chicken pox you should be fine. Don't worry or stress over should be fine
