Lidocaine gel or patch

I have been suffering from postherpetic neuropathy following a recent shingles outbreak. My doctor suggested I try lidocaine and said there is a gel or a patch option. Can anyone provide feedback on which is better?

Thank you.

Re: Lidocaine gel or patch

I tried the patches, which didn't give me much relief from intense pain. I'd try the gel. It sounds soothing and no sticking to sensitive areas,as with a patch.
