There is but shingles is a viral infection and your Dr gave you the medicine for it. If it is on just one side of your body, follows the nerve dermatome, started with itching and turned into little blisters in clusters, then caused pain along the same line, it sounds like shingles. It is usually a clinical diagnosis, ie, one made by just looking at it. Valtrex is an antiviral medicine effective for herpes zoster. If the pain gets bad, other meds can be used to control that. This is contagious, so take care not to have direct contact with anyone until rash clears up, usually 10-14 days.
