Thumbs down Shoulder displacement from immobility

I fell 10 wks ago and fractured the shaft of my humerus. I was in a splint and sling from wrist to shoulder for about 8 weeks. I am now wearing a brace that is covering only the shaft. Still in the sling. I have been given instructions to start moving the elbow & I have been making progress within the past two weeks. But when I went for x-rays last night, it shows that the ball is slowly dropping from the socket only from it not being in use for so long. The dr says he has never seen it this bad before and he "thinks" it will not dislocate. This scares me greatly, because I can actually feel the shoulder popping in & out when I try the exercises he has instructed me to do. I have googled this situation, but the only thing I find is dislocation with the fall. My situation is different because it is not completely dislocated & it didn't happen during the fall. The muscles & tendons are stretched & weak. Will they tighten with exercise? The dr seems to "think" a lot of things, but he is not sure because, again, he has not seen a situation this bad. Has anyone had or known anyone with a similar problem? Pls help.
