Question No Rotator cuff-no tendons-no muscle left

Oh boy!! Did I do it good. My fall happened on November 26 2009. It was a terrible fall that has affected the quality of my life as I knew it. Not only did I dislocate my "right" shoulder (I am right handed) my MRI also showed I actually blew apart my rotator cuff and all surrounding tissues - tendons; ligaments-there is nothing there to support my shoulder joint.

It is not a case of fixing a "tear" in my rotator cuff-I have no rotator cuff!! Gone-poofy! NOTHING THERE. I don't know where everything went-it was a complete abolishment of my rotator cuff. The only suggestion given to me was when it was reset the first time after my fall everything was mutilated because when they reset they squished everything under the ball and was placed in on top of all the stuff I need or it just all liquidated and blendend in with the tissue damage.

I have had 16 complete dislocations in the past 6 months. I have had frontal and backward dislocation's. Each time I have to go to emergency to have Xray's; I am knocked out for them to reset it. When my shoulder dislocates it goes under the shoulder pocket and drops down my arm almost to my elbow. Creating more nerve damage; muscle damage; shoulder pain you name it everytime it drops. In between each reset I get "some" healing from the blood and tearing - but as soon as it dislocates again all that healing is ripped up again & again.

I saw 2 Specialist's for opinions and suggestions - neither one would consider operating because of the risk for infection or paralysis. After I asked for a second opinion one surgeon decided he would get me into hospital for a laproscopic view of what is going on and if there is anything he can do - if he feels confident he can do something he will operate right then and there-if not they will stitch up the small laproscopic incision and send me home. I go in on April 26th.

My shoulder just sit's there waiting to roll out. Each time it dislocates it is so stressful and painful & just makes me feel nauseous.

I have ordered so many support braces- one to sleep in; drive with; immobolize my shoulder-all to keep my shoulder in place. I wear one to bed each night although this does not always stop my arm from dislocating. Most of my dislocation's happen while I am sleeping and I wake up in intolerable pain and I immediatley feel my flopping arm and get so angry

I am very nervous about the surgery-but I know I have to do try something. Yikes-22 days!

Re: No Rotator cuff-no tendons-no muscle left

Wow so sorry to hear about this. It makes me feel guilty about complaining about the pain I've been experiencing since my rotator cuff surgery. Best of luck. Please keep us informed.

Thanks Irish-I have no idea what to expect but I went to the ER for my 21st dislocation on Sunday afternoon. It is just so unstable and so painful when it drops-excrutiating actually. At least they knock me out to reset it.

I went to see the anesthesiologist today and had all my lab work done and ECG etc. So we are set for the 26th of April. I have one thing going for me and that is-the Surgeon who is doing the surgery is highly recommended. Kind of a drag I will be in traction for the summer. Hopefully it will work out and I will never have to suffer another dislocation.

Everyones pain is different. It just so happens on impact my rotator cuff liquified-gross. I kept asking "well were would it go?" How can something like that just disappear-well it can but not to often-could only happen to me!

What happened with you?

Well while waiting on my Lumbar Fusion I sharted having shoulder pain which kept worsening so the week before my fusion they did an MRI which showed
impingement syndrome with partial tear. I did not believe this though because the pain was so severe. They went in laparoscally but then found a
mess so had to open up my shoulder, I had part of my collar bone removed the acromion was shaved down, a large to massive tear in the supraspinatus, the tendon had completely retractred and my humeral head was exposed, and a smaller tear in the intrtaspinatus. So recovery has been quite painful.

Pls keep us aprised of your surgery outcome I will be praying for a great outcome.
