Pain after surgery

I had surgery on june 9th to fix the ligaments that hold my shoulder together. after surgery i didn't have much pain at all and my fingers were swollen and sore a little bit. it is now 9 days since and starting yesterday and still continuing, i have severe pain in my fingers. any time i touch them or move them they pain is worse than anything i have felt before. can any one help me ?

Re: Pain after surgery

Was this your acromioclavicular ligaments, if so which grade was your tear?

Re: Pain after surgery

it might have been..he described it as the ligaments that hold the humerus into the socket joint..some of them were torn and sewn back together but most of them were just stretched so he tighted all of them

I suspect that you have muscle inhibition surrounding your shoulder. The muscles, because of the pain and surgery won't contract and are flaccid and so the circulation is not flowing through the joint. What you need to do is simple, just keep squeezing your fist and you will find a minor contraction of your big shoulder muscle which will give a pumping action and get rid of the swelling around the shoulder without irritating the operation. Try this and take your meds on a regular basis. Let us know.

Re: Pain after surgery

so i tried what u suggested last night and it was not good. i totally understand about the squeezing to get the muscles going. however any movement of my fingers is escrutiating and i thought i was going to pass out from the pain it was so bad.

Having pain of this magnitude is unusual and should not be. It is understanable to have pain down to your hand but for the hand to be so painfull on squeezing is something you can't put up with, see your doctor, see what he or she says.
