Arthroscopic shoulder surgery
My Mother recently had arthroscopic shoulder surgery (2 tears were repaired). Is it routine to intubate for this procedure?

Re: Arthroscopic shoulder surgery
When someone gets general anesthesia, yes, many doctors will intubate, because the anesthesia can cause breathing problems until it wears off.
Was your mother injured by the tube? That's rare but it can happen.

Re: Arthroscopic shoulder surgery
Yes, she did have general anesthesia, but there were several notes in her file indicating that she should not be intubated. Apparently, no one read her file. She ended up having to spend two days on ICU with sub glottal stenosis.
