Bump on Shoulder

After a freak weightlifting accident, I tore the labrum in my left shoulder and there was a bump, or bone putrusion on it. I winded up having surgery about 11 months later... the surgery took care of the labral tear, and it even seemed like the bump on the ac joint went away.

I was very lazy with the physical therapy after, didn't really do the exercises I was told to do at home... and I started lifting heavy objects and exerting large amounts of force onto my shoulders when I shoveled snow, drove, and helped move heavy objects around the house. The bump winded up coming back, and since then it seems as if its been getting progressively worse.

What is this bump? What caused this? Why did it seem like it went away? and What can I do about it now?

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Bump on Shoulder

I suspect you have an acromioclavicular ligament tear. It may be a type 2 or even
type 3 separation. This ligament holds the clavicle and the top of the scapula, (shoulder blade) together. The surgeon may have repaired it at the time but it has become overstretched. Of course there is no real proof that your overuse caused it but it would have been prudent to have followed a graduated program. Dont feel too guilty, very few patients follow up with the recommended exercises. The good news is that these injuries very rarely cause later trouble. May spoil your appearance on the beach with a bump un the shoulder!!
