Chronic Pain Under Shoulder Blade

A few weeks ago I pulled a muscle in my neck. Because I was in so much pain, I went to my chiropractor. With his help, stim, and ice the pain has gone away and I now have full range of motion in my neck. About a week ago I began having a chronic dull (sometimes sharp) pain around my left shoulder blade. It actually feels like it may be under the shoulder blade. I take Aleve and ice it when I can, which temporarily eases the pain, but it comes back. Any ideas on what this could be?

Re: Chronic Pain Under Shoulder Blade

I have been using google to help self diagnose, lol, and have found that the pain is around the rhomboid major. I've been taking it easy since I pulled the muscle in my neck, so I'm having a hard time thinking of something that resulted in this pain. Is it possible that the chiropractor did something when he was adjusting my neck?

Re: Chronic Pain Under Shoulder Blade

Story of my life!!! My rhomboid major on both sides is my decimate nemesis. Do you find your baby and pinky fingers go numb when you sleep on your back? (I have that too, and wondered if it was related). I found the absolute best relief is using a golf ball or tennis ball and a wall. Put your back to the wall, find the sore spot and put the ball between your sore spot and the wall, press back and roll it around the spot. I find bending and lifting my knees so the ball goes up and down works best. Try extending your arm across your chest as well to expose under your shoulder blade!!! Good luck!!!

Actually I may have some good news for you! I have been to the chiropractor a few times since my injury. He was able to do some adjustments, which I don't think resolved the issue, but he sent me to the massage therapist who found the "trigger spot", I think is what she called it. Once she found my trigger spot she worked on it, and although it was painful at the time, it feels soooooooooooooooo much better now. I would highly suggest going to get a massage. Be sure to communicate with the therapist because if I wouldn't have I don't think she would have found it. Hope this helps!
