Ongoing AC joint irritation - 14 months
Here's my situation:
When training at gym, I irritated my AC joint. This was some time ago. I had it diagnosed by US and MRI as a slight tear in the capsule and an AC strain. After some time, the joint injury repaired itself and came back to strength.
But, the pain never really went away. It's a different pain, now. When I'm at gym (back at around 90% strength), I can push some serious weight in my compound movements and 1-8 rep range. Anywhere over that with anything like cable flyes or anyting that uses my arms as a long lever...at around the 8-18 rep range, the shoulder flares up...but feels like it flares up due to fatigue or something. It's very weird. The joint will get sore, and then within the next 2-3 reps, will become even sorer and will be unable to do any more gym work.
I'm not sure if it's the muscles around a nerve getting blood pumped into it...or the inflamation process that hasn't stopped (what my physio thinks), but it's severly annoying.
I have been at a shoulder specialist who has even worked for the Dallas Cowboys and UT, and he has xrayed me, seen the MRI's and ulrasounds and cannot see any reason for surgery or any injury present - there's no unusual degeneration of the joint either. But, he said if the pain keeps up, we can take the joint out.
Not really a fan of that option if they can't find any reason but pain to do that.
Has anyone else has this buildup of pain? The swelling/pain when touched only lasts for an hour or two...then it's gone. Shoulder returns to normal.
Any idea what it could be or what kind of therapy I should enquire about?
