What is going on with my shoulder?

This has been going on for a few years now.

In my left shoulder I randomly get a feeling like I've trapped a nerve, even if I haven't moved my shoulder. Its so sudden it makes me jump and literally feels like someone has just pinched my shoulder really hard. It doesn't hurt at any other point, and the trapped nerve feeling only lasts for a second or two.

Any ideas?

If it helps I've spent the last 5 years at college doing a very practical subject which means I use my arms and shoulders a lot, and obviously I've been carrying around school/college bags for years. If you have any light to shed feel free

Re: What is going on with my shoulder?

Not unlikely that it's a neck issue and not a shoulder issue at all. Sharp nerve pain like that happens with shoulder injuries, but I think it's typically not the first/only symptom.

I've had that kind of pain on and off for years--I had a SLAP tear that was not repaired for several years, and it worsened and led to nerve pain and damage, but not until long after more typical shoulder pain/deep aching, shoulder weakness, some instability, etc.

Re: What is going on with my shoulder?

I agree with snowdrift. I am in the middle of trying to figure out what's wrong with my shoulder (mri tomorrow). But, I have had WAY more than just nerve pain. I have only recently started having nerve pain down my arm after over a year of other shoulder pain right at the joint.
I hope you get relief soon.
