Hi. I'm usually posting on other boards but I am looking for some help answering a question for a family member. Does anyone know if long-term prescription drug addiction can cause brain lesions? If anyone knows of any info linking the two, please feel free to post some links and direct me to more info.

what kind of pharmecuticals are you talkin about here......opiates...pain meds,ect....benzodiazapines,xanax,valium ....amphetamines,sleeping pills?....i dont think fda would allow drugs that cause lesions...even if they would be abused.....what kind of advice are they lookin for......what kind of drugs...how many?...length of time abused?....chef

It is my aunt and she takes just about everything...even mixes her own prescription cocktails. Opiates & pain meds are the most commonly used by her, but she has others...I'm not sure exactly what. She's been taking them for years, probably over 15-20 years. She has terrible headaches and fatigue, so went to her doctor where they found lesions in her brain.

I was curious as to whether there have been any cases linking the two. I don't really have a whole lot of information other than that right now.

ill ask my doc and let you know this week...sounds like strokes to me....who knows what they used to put in pills years ago.......doesnt sound like your gonna be able to get your aunt sober...get her to any mtgs or the such,eh?.............she may need the crap,ask her doc.........chef

I know that Imitrex (for migraines but non narcotic) can cause strokes if taken too much.
