Re: duragesic patch

I Have Taken One Of The 25 Ug Or Whatever They Call It Before, And I Could Not Hardly Feel It, But It Did Keep Me From Getting Sick. I Felt It Most The Next Morning When I Woke Up. They Give These Out Because They Are Harder To Abuse Than Pills. You Only Get 10 Patches For A Month, So If You Cut Them Open You Will Be Out Quickly, But That Is How They Are Abused I Believe. My Wife Told Her Doctor She Was Abuseing Oxycontin So He Wanted To Put Her On The Patches, She Tapered Off W/suboxone And Is Clean Now. Has Been For About 8 Months. I Also Tapered Off W/suboxone, But Did Not Last Without A Maintaince Plan. I Stayed Off Opiates For About 3 Weeks And When I Started To Feel 75 % Better, I Thought I Could Control A Shot Of Morphine On The Weekends. Of Course I Was Wrong. I Am Now On Suboxone And Will Have 90 Days Clean 05/26/04. Suboxone Is A Mircle Drug For Me. Sorry About The Large Caps.

thats awesome you'll be 90 days clean soon what a great job also thanks for the info i don't intend to abuse them just want rid of my pain i've heard of people cutting them open and also using a syringe i guess it's a good way to kill yourself quickly but i fully intend to use it as prescribed they started me out on 50 and it's awesome i feel only slight pain and you're right it's definitly better than taking the hydros there so short acting i probably would've had to take 8 to 10 a day to feel any significant pain relief thanks for replying every little bit of info helps and again congrats on 90 days on 5/26 thats great

Re: duragesic patch

even if you use them as prescribed, they are 1000 times worse to detox off of than vicodins. it put me in the hospital and i truly wanted to kill myself. i have come off of 15/day vicodin habit, so i know what i'm comparing. i know you don't think you will abuse them now, but in a couple of weeks, when you become tolerant to them, you will need more, and your doc will be super hesitant about upping the script, and you'll remember what the people here on the board said about cutting them open. if you are an opiate addict, its not safe to think that the strongest opiate is a 'safe bet.' just like with vicodin, you will become used to it, and become tempted to abuse it. and when you do abuse it, it will feel heavenly because its so potent, and its a dangerous road to start down. I went through the whole process, and had the same line of thinking that you have right now. Please reconsider. And what the past poster said about it being safer isn't necessarily true...they mentioned aspirin, and there is no aspirin in vicodin. its tylenol. the addictive nature of fentanyl, even when used properly is something i couldn't believe. I just would like to prevent anyone from having to go through those horrible withdrawals. And I was only on the 25mcg!

Just some food for thought....
Good luck.

i never abused my methadone other then my tolerance going up and having to take more my body became physically dependant on methadone and thats why i stopped if i know w/ds i went through 5 wks of living a nightmare coming off 50 mgs of methadone cold turkey it was awful i wanted to kill myself i would never cut open these patches i have a 7 year old daughter and husband i'm taking these for pain not euphoria cutting these patches open or whatever else you can do to abuse is a good way to send yourself to the grave i am just not that type of person i came on these boards because my w/ds were so long and needed support going through them and now that i came of 100 and something days ago i'm suffering my chronic pain all over again believe me if any thing else worked other than opioids i'd be taking them instead i know people are just concerned and i'm really sorry you had to go through that it must of been terrible and my heart goes out to you thank you for caring luv kelleigh
