Thumbs up After two years....two weeks of sleep.

Hi fellow RLS sufferers,

I've never wanted to go the drug route so I keep playing around with other options. My latest has given me two weeks of sleep without RLS. While it could change at any moment, I'll post this anyway in hopes someone else may find some relief (if only temporarily). I've always popped a few vitamins here and there, but two weeks ago I got serious. Here's what I'm taking:
Cal/Mag, Slow-fe iron, B6, B12, folic acid, zinc, alpha linolic acid, MSM w/ C, co-q10, Vit-E. Some of these I have taken on and off for the heart. I added the cal/mag, slow fe iron, MSM in hopes that one or all would help the RLS. Well, something did help, but I don't know which one so I take them all everyday. I had also been taking one advil at bedtime which helped occasionally ease my symptoms. I stopped the advil one night during these last two weeks and still slept. I plan to totally stop the advil next week. I still wake two - three hours after I go to bed. The difference is that I am able to go back to sleep immediately. I am a different person having had this relief. I really hope it continues. I know are bodies are all different but I wanted to share my experience with you all....That's all we can do.
Also, I'm intrigued by the info posted here on flax seed oil. I have been looking for the capsules in my health food store because it supposidly helps to lower cholesterol (which I need to do). The fact that it's helping someone with their RLS will make me find it and try it today! Let's keep are hopes up folks!

Talking Re: After two years....two weeks of sleep.

I also suffered from RLS for 2 years. About 6 weeks ago I started taking Slo Fee iron and my Dr. has me on 2mg of Klonopin at night. After a week on the iron I have not had any problems. I had a friend who told me about the iron because she also had RLS and it went away after starting the iron supplement.
Good Luck.

The Magnesium in your mag/cal vitamin is what is helping you because RLS is a vitamin deficiency.

Actually, recent research has pointed to an iron receptor in the brain. They found it's malfunctioning in people who have RLS and not enough of the iron is getting to where it needs to in the brain.

Re: After two years....two weeks of sleep.

Yes, THEY have done a lot of studies and I do think the iron could also have a lot to do with it since iron is directly related to red blood cells. One of Magnesium's job is to release the muscle after it contracts and if not enough mag then the muscle keeps contracting.
But hey what ever you are doing/taking is working and it sounds perfectly healthy so keep it up!
Oh I just read your klonopin medication. oops that's not too healthy. sorry. Isn't that a benzodiazaphine? Maybe do a little search on the klonopin and make sure you know what you're taking there because my mom took a benzo to help her sleep in 1994 and is now totally addicted. I think you're only supposed to be on a benzo for about 2 weeks and after that you're all NEEDING it. (I had to send her to a drug rehab, and that didn't even work).
So maybe your sleeping well 'cause of the unhealthy medication. Maybe try SlOWLY tapering off that while keeping up your HEALTHY vitamin intake.
Let me know how you're doing.

Oh I just realized that I was talking to someone other than the OP. Well I've TRIED just taking iron BYW and it did seem to help for half a night, but the magnesium has CURED me. That's why I'm not on here as a complaining senior member. So trust me, it's just a vitamin for God's sake. Or you can be closed minded and become a 5 star senior member here.
