Advice on Meds.

Hi everyone, hope your days going well. Im on 60mg prozac. ive a few questions which maybe someone can answer. im 29, been on & off meds since i was 17. ive had my good periods of health but also my bad patches. i have tried lots of meds in that time, most of them didnt agree with me, im sure most of you have had that problem! i cannot remember the names of most of them. ive had success with 3. anafranil (spelt wrong! but made me sweat constantly so i changed, seroxat which for me was a good drug & prozac. i have however found prozac doesnt work like it used to & to be honest it feels like im taking empty capsules. Why doesnt prozac seem to be working anymore on me, ive been on it for years & my body just seems not to be efected by this med anymore. im curious as to why??? its not my expectations , i know there is no wonder pill, just doesnt work like it used to. my doctors have tried me on lots of different meds like i said & have come to the conclusion that there isnt anything out there i may as well stay on prozac or like last year take nothing when i was well, problem is im ill & prozac isnt helping me like i know it used to.i live in Engand & most of my meds IVE TRIED are now old. any sugestions on new meds made after prozac. My health wont improve with meds alone, but it would sure be nice to have an option.

Maybe you could try a different SSRI, like Paxil or Zoloft? There are lots of options out there - I hope you find something that works well for you. Good luck!

Re: Advice on Meds.

If you have become tolerant of prozac & keep taking it, it can actually have the opposite effect & cause depression. After some years or even months, an anti-depressant can quit working for you. You need to talk to your doctor & try a new med. There are tons of them on the market now, I just went thru 8 months of trying to find a new one that works for me with little side effects. My old one worked for 7 years & then quit. I have a hard time with meds & seem to have all the side effects listed, so there is hope for you to find a new one too.

Re: Advice on Meds.

Greetings from Gustav,

LORI is right, you do not want to keep on taking the PROZAC. It has served its purpose and now it is done. My therapist and lots of time on the internet have both taught me that sometimes for some people anti-depressants just poop out and stop working. The therapeutic quality just ends.

There and lots of meds out there you can try. Talk to a health professional about anti-depressants and learn what is out since PROZAC (lots.)

For what it is worth my wife has been of CIPRAMIL (CELEXA) for a little over 4 years. She loves it. I started CIPRALEX (LEXAPRO) 2 months ago. I love it. These are our 1st ever anti-depressants. So far so good. Peace.
