Talking Two days Post-op!

Hi all,

had FESS sinus surgery and septoplasty two days ago. Feeling pretty OK. Minimal pain except for coming out of anethesia, and got some morphine for that-- good stuff. Only took one dose of Tylenol 3, and very little regular Tylenol. Had the packing out yesterday-- that did hurt, but only for a few seconds. Stopped draining enough to stop wearing the mustrache dressing, only have to dab a little now and then-- doing meticulous spraying to moisturize, peroxide swabbing, and Bacitracin around the nostrils. Nose feels pretty OK except ****, I wish I could blow it and I feel stuff sliding down the back of my throat. Going back to the doc next week for more cleanup.

I saw the video high lights of my procedure yesterday-- wild stuff. Opened up a lot of space on one side, took the left middle turbinate off, fixed the septum and filed down a bone spur, should really solve the problems.

Just taking an antibiotic (cefadroxil) now, also taking arnica (homeopathic) and bromelain, vit C & Bcomplex. Drinking lots. More info as things progress!

Re: Two days Post-op!

I had septoplasty and opening up sinuses surgery last Thursday. I had a terrible anesthesia reaction and then high temperatures the first few days and ended up in the hospital twice. It sounds like you have made it farther than I have already the first few days. The only problem now is pressure and headaches because there is still some stuff in there. I wondered if your ENT stated if you could take Sudafed-like products or not? I cannot get hold of him today and there is a lot of pressure and pain. Wish you good breathing soon!

Make sure you get the scar tissue removed within a few weeks. This is an important follow up, otherwise a new blockage can form.

Glad to hear that you are doing so well. Best of luck!

I didn't know that they now take videos. Are you able to get a copy of the video? Back when I had surgery, they didn't even take pictures and they had old techniques. They warned me before the operation that they might have to go up under my check instead of through the nostrils. Fortunately it was through my nostrils.

Where did they open up the space? Was it to provide an opening to the Maxillary Sinus?

Best of luck with your recovery!

Hi all,

Markantonio, sorry to hear about your reaction. My ENT didn't say anything about Sudafed or any oral decongestants, but his aftercare instructions did mention (as well as he did verbally) to use Afrin for mild bleeding. I have used Afrin once, yesterday, and I've been spraying saline every hour or so.

CHiggins, I had the packing removed yesterday in the office, and he said he didn't want to poke around there yet. I go back 6/21 (day 6 post-op) for more cleanup. Can't blow my nose until then, but I think the spraying is making a difference.

Beerzoids, he opened up both maxillary ostia. The right was easy, he did it prior to fixing the septum to take advantage of the wider right side. Removed the uncinate and opened the right maxillary ostium, but didn't need to even go up to the ethmoids on that side. The left was more extensive; after fixing the septum and filing down the bone spur, he removed the middle turbinate, uncinate, opened the maxillary ostium and the ethmoid cells on the left.

The video was real neat. he basically just taped what was going through the endoscope to the monitor, he said he uses it for teaching residents and he thought I might want to see it (my "experience" if you get my meaning). It was very interesting. The bone in there in the turbinates and all is quite eggshell-thin, and the suction burr just does an excellent job at focused tissue removal.

Thanks for all your replies!
