Re: Fast HR upon standing

Thats how it all started with me, a fast heart rate which was never properly looked into. Having a fast heart rate is really tiring, and on occassion can require meds. My sis has a constant fast heartrate and saw a cardiologist who did some tests and they came back fine. She didn't get put on meds and I keep insisting that she would feel better if she took something. When I was REALLY in bad shape, all I could do was lay on the couch. I barely spoke, I barely ate, I couldn't move much or my heart would pound(it pounded enough just laying there). My heartrate was about 160 at rest. They put me on Atenolol(100mg) and what a difference. I could move and breath again. After losing 20lbs they had to drop my Atenolol to 50mg. My resting heartrate is now anywhere from 65 to 75.

I have been sick with something for the past 7 months now. I have had many tests and so far things look good. I was in really bad shape, in bed for the most part of the day. The last few weeks I have been feeling a wee bit better. I don't know if the problem is nerves, but I do know that bad nerves/anxiety can cause a host of symptoms and problems, some we aren't even really familiar with. A friends grandmother would temporarily lose her eyesight(probably blackout) when she was at her worst. Anyway, I am not yet convinced its my nerves, but it could be. Your symptoms don't really sound like anxiety but I am sure it effects everyone a little differently. The key are your vitals. Watch your heartrate, blood pressure and temperature. Any changes in these should be reported to your doctor.

I really hope for all of you that you get some answers soon, and can get feeling better.

Take care,
Abby

Re: Fast HR upon standing

Hummingbird, how do they check for diastolic? One would think with the battery of heart testing I have been through, I would know, but I never realized this wasn't routine.

Also, I came across something that may or may not be of interest to any of you with a fast heartrate. "Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia" (POTS).
Usually occurs when standing or even moving(increase in heartrate) but can also cause symptoms when sitting or laying down. Let me know what you all think. There appears to be a fairly long list of symptoms-from the site I found anyway(which I WILL NOT mention).

Re: Fast HR upon standing

Hey guys, i thought i should reply to this post, because i have all of these symptoms as well. my heart races when i stand, well, it gets very tachycardic when i stand. sometimes even just sitting, my heart rate goes up to 130 or higher. then when i stand you can imagine how fast it goes.

my problem though is from anorexia and bulimia. i've been anorexic and bulimic for five years now. my heart is damaged. i also have low bp when i stand, as it goes so low that i can't even get a blood pressure when i take it while i'm standing. i get very dizzy when i stand, plus i get really bad tightness in my chest, shortness of breath.. i have been on a holter moniter before...it showed PVCs and tachycardia, some other arrythmias.

in about a week and a half, i go back to the cardiologist to have a stress echo (this is the first time i've ever had one, out of the MANY cardiologist appointments i've been to.) and for another holter monitor.

i have been on toprol (had to stop because of my low blood pressure), Inderal, pindolol, florinef, cardizem, digoxin, ...some others that i can't remember at the moment.

my heart rate when i'm healthy is somewhere in the 80's. i've had prolonged tachycardia now ever since i've been out of the hospital...(back in february)
so...i just wanted to reply to let you guys know that you aren't alone...and that's it frustrating, tachycardia. it really makes me so physically sick sometimes... but, i will say some prayers for you guys.
