tramadol question

I hope this question is not inappropriate for this Board. I figured everyone here would know at least as much as the Pain Mgmt. board regulars.

The good news is I slowly weaned off Xanax for almost a year, and just went almost 3 weeks without any Xanax (but I took about .125 Xanax this morning, because of this other problem):

I have been taking 6-8 tramadol a day for several months now (which is as prescribed by the on-line dr.). My family dr. does NOT know this, as he prescribed a limited amount of ultracet for me but then wanted me to try other stuff like hormone replacement and beta-blockers, etc., all I wanted was some pain killers for my endo. So I get tramadol shipped to me from on-line . . . well, of course, there was a foul up in the order-taking/shipment part of the process and as a result I am now entering day two of no Tramadol. (and none will be arriving for at least a couple of days from the report I am getting) But the only withdrawal symptom I've had so far is really jittery nerves, good old-fashioned anxiety. I really don't know what to expect -- I'm wondering if I should just keep going with not taking it at all and go to a different pain-killer (alleve or motrin) -- I am tired of having to monitor all of this ordering and deliveries and then worrying about late shipments, not to mention the money . . . help

Re: tramadol question

Tramadol is a non-narcotic medication that acts exactly like a narcotic. If you have a history of addiction be very wary of this medication. If you have stopped taking it and have not had symptoms, count your blessings and move on. The fact that you are getting tramadol from 2 sources, neither one aware of the other, is a big red flag.

Peace Out

Re: tramadol question

The thing that drives me nuts is the anxiety . . . I have to show up at work like this . . . can't concentrate at all . . . now I know I'm just being a baby. Of course the family car broke down this morning too (more stress). I guess I wanted to know if this is something that will get better, worse, or stay the same over the next few days or so. I wish I could call out tomorrow and spend all day somewhere peaceful . . .

Re: tramadol question

dont know what to tell you mouse, but just that i hope things get better and you dont have to go thru withdrawals sweetie. Ive taken tramadol before, and for me it was 4 - 6 times a day for pain. When i stopped them i never had any withdrawals at all and considered myself very lucky for that. I know the added stress of car breaking down doesnt help . I dont know if the anxiety youre going thru might be cause youre "expecting" to have withdrawals or the not knowing how bad it could get before you get your meds. Hopefully you'll be like me and not have any side effects.
Now hydrocodone, i take 4 tabs a day for fibro. If again, i run out and my doc closes her office early on fridays, and for some reason the prescription didnt get faxed to the pharmacy i do get anxious. Cause with that i do get withdrawal symptoms, but thats more like diareah and just a feeling of illness, nothing major, but alot of anxiety cause i know how it will get. HOpe you will feel better soon and that your meds come in, but again, let your other doc know whats going on tho just in case something happens. Take care hon,
Jen

Re: tramadol question

thank you -- this morning it is just stiff joints with the anxiety. Still it feels good to not feel chained to a pill.
