Re: more catheter questions

By the way, rfj, the little icon after the word catheter says it all!

Re: more catheter questions

L- I had a Rx for oxybutnin - 2 X a day for bladder spasams. It really did help.

Re: more catheter questions

Hi Ron--ours is called Flomax, once a day, sounds like a drain cleaner doesn't it! Anyway, another bad day today, back to the ER and now the catheter again, for a day or two, and a new medication to cut the inflamation. The doctor says he hasn't had a case like ours in 300 surgeries, aren't we special? It appears that the irritation caused by the catheter caused pain which causes the spasms, which constricts the flow of urine, which requires a catheter, which causes pain, etc. etc. etc. Hopefully this new medication will do the trick. We are just a tad tired, and my husband is worn out, to say the least. However, this should not have any negative effect on the overall outcome. Bye for now.

Re: more catheter questions

Hey, Liane, I sure hope the doc has some nice parting gifts, since you are such exceptional patients and all. So sorry to hear that your husband is still going through such pain and frustration. None of this is fair all all. He is very lucky to have such a caring and supportive spouse. Feel free to remind him...perhaps after he's out of the woods! My very patient and supportive partner and friends made a huge difference, as did my local PC support group. Our prayers are with you.

Re: more catheter questions

Hi again. It would be nice to get some nice parting gifts, but that would imply we have to part from the doctor, and that hasn't happened quite yet. My husband is now catheter free, and we haven't been to emergency in over a week, so that is hopeful. He is on a couple of different medications to keep things flowing. For the most part I am supportive, I am in this for the long haul after all, but I admit my level of frustration has been increasing as my patience deteriorates. There is now a ray of hope though. I don't think I like this part about being the unusual case or statistic which makes us take one step back for each step forward. But we are grateful for the removal of the cancer, and for each other. I continue to read with interest the experiences of everyone, and learn from them. And perhaps one day I can offer advice to someone who is new to this whole thing, as you as a group have to me. Thanks once again and probably not for the last time! (And I have reminded him time and again about what a wonderful spouse I am!)
