Question New Problem...palpitations...

Hey everyone ,

Well, while the bp is LOW, it was 90/54 yesterday on 1/2 Benicar/HCT 20/12.5, I've noticed that when I try to exert myself with exercising, about half-way thru at my pulse peak, I'm getting heart palpitations. I'm also getting them when I exert myself WITHOUT actual exercise , just a few so far, but they REALLY annoy me.

I used to have them very bad, but I haven't really been bothered by them when exercising, until I started on the Benicar/HCT.

My doctor did a bunch of labwork last weak and he did find out I'm anemic and I've been on iron since then(not bad anemia, just borderline), he also checked my electrolytes and thyroid and he's not called about those, so I *hope* they're OK, he usually calls right away if something is way off.

So, what do you make of the palps??
Back when I used to have them so bad, I had to go on a beta-blocker and I would have a few, but nothing like before I went on it.
Do you think I might have to switch back to that????

I just hate to ruin a good thing, but I HATE PVC's!

Love,
Ginger

Re: New Problem...palpitations...

I had those too and my dr told me to cut out all caffiene......which means caffiene free drinks and not much chocolate.....It has helped. I only have palpatations around the time of my period now....which is due to high levels of estrogen at that time....

Hi Ginger,

Sorry about your palpitations. They are listed as one of the uncommon side effects of Benicar. It is recommended that if you experience palpitations while on Benicar, you should tell your doctor immediately. You may have to give up Benicar as I did for stomach problems. I know how disappointing all this is. Good luck.

Hi bharkins,

I couldn't find * palpitations * listed as an uncommon side effect anywhere on the actual Benicar/HCT insert , the FDA one that has everything on it or the website....

I don't think it is a side effect of the med. I think it's a side effect that my bp is so low that when I exert myself to a certain extent that my heart pressure can't keep up, if I'm making any sense at all here.
I mean, when I exercise and if I stop and take my bp, it's soooooo low still. I mean, I would think it should be up there around 140/90 or so if I'm really exerting myself, but it's not. It's only like 90/60 even if I'm really exerting.
OH WELL....
I'll just have to see what happens. I may have to go back on Ziac like before.

Thanks for listening everyone.

Love,
Ginger

Dear Ginger,

'Sorry, too, that you are still monitoring and waiting. Did you realize that anemia can cause palpitations? If you do a search for heart palpitations, you will find several causes and one is anemia. We don't want to confuse you, but just want to help you be in your own best detective.
Please keep us posted. Possibly once the anemia is corrected, the palps will improve. Just a thought~~
Hugs,
Sunny
