I was wondering if Spiro is any more or less effective if taken with birth control? I have a dermo appointment next week and I'm going to ask him to put me on Spiro. Aslo, do you have to get "examed" before you get a Rx for birth control, or can you just ask your doctor for it? I would appreciate any advice, thanks!
i haven't taken spiro, but from what I've read on this site, Spiro can affect your periods and make them less regular, that's why many women take the pill along with it. Before getting on the pill you might have to have a regular gyno exam (pap smear) but I'm really not sure. Probably depends on your doc. You might want to ask for Ortho-tricyclen or Yasmin (I've heard the hormone in yasmin is a low-dose derivative of the active ingredient in Spiro).
Taking them together helps acne even more. I don't think it makes bc less effective? In fact one of the reasons doctors often put patients on the pill with it is that it can cause birth defects.
If you aren't sexually active your doctor might give you a prescription without an exam. I agree that Yasmin and OTC are good ones to try. I'm having good luck on Desogen too.
