Yeah Aldactone is the name brand and Spironolactone is the Generic, go figure.
Spiro is an Anti-Androgen which means it's going to block the activity of androgens. It does this by blocking Testosterone and DHT from binding to the Androgen Receptors. However, despite what some studies say, my blood values, and other clincal studies, it also reduced my Free Testosterone by 30%. This is actually the number that's been associated with how much DHT activity it will prevent between 20% - 30%.
The negatives are usually reversible, even down to any (male patterned) body hair you lose. If you lose your libido to the point that you don't want to stay on even 25mg of Spiro, stopping should bring your libido back within a matter of days.
Some males on here mentioned stopping not due to the above but because it lowered their blood pressure too much. It's really fascinating how our sensitivity varies. Males on this board are getting clear from 25 - 100mg of spiro. Yet as for me, a female, 200mg of spiro wasn't enough. Oh well, otherwise the side effects aren't a big deal. I've taken it safely for 6 years, but I think I may be fortunate in that respect. Although, I found a study once that supported taking this for as long as 12 years safely.
You may or may not have trouble with building muscle. Males produce so much testosterone already that it's hard to imagine a dose that small preventing you for doing so. Yet if you find that it does you can always replace spiro with Beta-Sitosterol. This is the active ingredient in Saw Palmetto and is 1000x more effective and only works by blocking the Androgen Receptors. Other's have found success using Zinc + B6, Green Tea (EGCG), and some other natural DHT Inhibitors (prevents DHT from being produced).
